Planning
Montecchio Maggiore is easy to reach: it sits beside the A4 motorway that crosses the Veneto, and Vicenza’s station, with trains to Venice, Verona and Milan, is 13 km away. Here is how to get there.
Montecchio Maggiore has no station. Fast trains stop at Vicenza, about 45 minutes to an hour and a quarter from Venice and about two hours from Milan. Regional trains also stop at Altavilla-Tavernelle, about 5 km from the town. From either, take a bus or a taxi.

Local buses run between Vicenza and Montecchio Maggiore in about half an hour. Buy tickets before boarding where possible, and check evening and Sunday times.
Leave the A4 at the Montecchio Maggiore exit. A car is the easiest way to explore the castles, villas and wine country. Motorway tolls are paid at the exit booths by card or cash.
